Summer Skills Program 2017

We want to help our Generals keep up on their skills over the summer break. This year we are again encouraging all of our students to practice their reading and math skills to be ready to go when school begins on August 22nd. Once again this summer we will be offering an optional program for all of our students.

There are two goals for each grade level

2017-2018 Kindergarteners should be able to:

GOAL 1. Recognize numbers 1 - 10.
GOAL 2. Write their entire first name and identify at least 20 letters.

2017-2018 First Graders should be able to:

GOAL 1. Correctly write all numbers up to 20.
GOAL 2. Recognize sight words from the assigned list with 90% accuracy.

2017-2018 Second Graders should be able to:

GOAL 1. Complete 30 fact addition and subtraction timed tests with sums to 12 with 93% accuracy in five minutes.
GOAL 2. Earn at least 5 AR points between June 6th and August 23rd.

2017-2018 Third Graders should be able to:

GOAL 1. Complete 38 out of 40 fact addition and subtraction timed test in three minutes.
GOAL 2. Earn at least 10 AR points between June 6th and August 23rd. (AR points for the first quarter of school will not begin until August 24th.)

2017-2018 Fourth Graders should be able to:

GOAL 1. Complete 40 facts in addition and subtraction with 100% accuracy in two minutes.
GOAL 2. Earn at least 15 AR points between June 6th and August 23rd. (AR points for the first quarter of school will not begin until August 24th.)

Parents, if your child can already accomplish these goals, challenge him/her by working toward some of our goals for the next grade level!!

What can be earned if you reach one or both goals.....

*All students that achieve the Math goal will receive a reward from Generals Ice Cream!!

*All students that achieve the Reading goal will receive a book from Scholastic!!

*All students that achieve BOTH goals will also be entered into a drawing to for a chance to win some great prizes!

You will be able to earn AR points this summer by doing the following:

  1. Find some good books. (Sorry, the school library will be closed.)
  2. Get on line at: www.arbookfind.com to see if the books you have found are AR books
  3. Read the book.
  4. Come to school at any of the times listed:

  5. The Whitehouse Primary Cafeteria will be used to take the AR quizzes. Use the breezeway doors to enter the building.  There will be a Summer Skills sign on the door.
  6. Take and pass your AR quizzes!! Parents must come in with children while they quiz. AR quizzes typically take children only 2-5 minutes per quiz to complete.
  7. To save paper and printer ink we will not be printing AR quiz results. To view your child’s results you can get online at https://Hosted174.renlearn.com/103310/HomeConnect/ Login.aspx.

 **ALL WHITEHOUSE TEACHERS WILL ALLOW STUDENTS TO TAKE AR TESTS THE FIRST TWO DAYS OF SCHOOL AND COUNT THOSE POINTS FOR THEIR SUMMER TOTALS!!
 (AR point totals will be collected at the end of the day on Wednesday, August 23rd)**

Copies of all forms for this program will be available by going to the Whitehouse Primary web page. They will also be available in the school kiosk the last week of school. You can also pick up any needed papers by coming to the lab times during assigned hours above.

Available forms include:

  • This informational letter
  • The first grade sight word list & number sheet
  • Sample math fact tests for each grade level (grades 2-4)
  • Information on helpful math fact web sites

Students can also use any of the web sites below to practice MATH FACTS:

**Children will be assessed on math and/or reading skills during the first few weeks of school. Earned rewards will be issued for all students before the end of September**

**Consider signing your child up for the Lucas County Library Summer Program and the Whitehouse Community Library Reading Program as well. You can earn incentives for all programs at the same time!!**
